The Five Must Knows About Human Trafficking
We support human trafficking in our everyday life without knowing that. With the help of CNN and other anti human trafficking groups and organizations, we have the five must know things about human trafficking. The first one is :(1) human trafficking is modern slavery. They are trapped physically, mentally and financially making this even harder to escape.
With this understood, the second must know is: (2) human trafficking happens everywhere. This is not just happening in third world counties, but in America too. The victims reside in the most obvious places, working at your nail salon, our picking your strawberries. In addition to that, the third thing people must know: (3) no one it's exempt from human trafficking. Just because your this age or this race does not matter once you are taken.
Although many of us think human trafficking is wrong, (4) we support it unintentionally, which is the fourth must know. From appliances to food, our everyday lives support slavery. However, the last thing to know is it can be stopped. (5) If we use anti-human trafficking companies they will lose money. In addition, if we hold governments accountable and work actively we can stop this and end slavery forever.

Human Trafficking and My Thoughts
I believe that as time goes on, awareness increases and so did the crimes involved in human trafficking. People are forcing children, women and men into the country by different ways of the legal immigration. Many of these people are being exploited by empty promises, abuse and deception. Those who run the human trafficking ring use these people to make money while dismissing the golden rule, "treat others the way you want to be treated."
Many people continue to be exploited by human trafficking. There is so much to be done, and so many Americans to educate because as every minute goes by a person is being abducted. The fact of the matter is: it can happen to anyone. Be careful, and be aware.
Human Trafficking in Seattle
Human trafficking victims are not always noticed. They could be anyone you see or know. They are basically slaves chained by differences in language, abuse, lies and etc. With these barriers placed in front of victims, it is hard to escape and the secret trafficking remains. They are trapped in these situations where they are afraid to telling anyone because they might end up getting hurt more.
Many women and men that come from other countries to work and help their families are there once put in these situations. A african woman was hired by a local couple as a housekeeper and she was told that the three children she left behind in Africa would be sent to good schools and that she would get to visit them every year in December. The visits never happened. The woman stated “I wake up at 6 in the morning. I had to do everything,” she says. “I work up to 9:30 [p.m.]. I go to bed at 10.”

Stopping Human Trafficking
The president of Columbia Gem House realized how bad human trafficking is when his one shoe cost more than most Madagascaris earn in one year. And Braunwart decided to do something about that not knowing that his own company was apart of it. Eric Braunwart, president of the company, realized he had to stop and making a change in his own company. As of today, is the first wholesale jewelry company to refuse slave labor and child labor. Instead, Braunwart is paying more in order to stray away from human trafficking.
In poor regions, human trafficking is common because companies give empty promises of education and good pay and only receive abuse. While one company is stopping this abomination, it is far from over. Human trafficking affects health, safety and homeland security. Although these problems exist, just as one company stops in internally, there is a way to stop it globally. This was indicated by the Mark Lagon, the writer of this article.
Lagon steps to ending human trafficking are very clear. He tells readers: the government must gain public awareness and stop allowing products made by slave labor to be sold. In addition, countries must ban all contractors and suppliers from using slave labor. These steps will help slow down and eventually stop human trafficking worldwide.
Human Trafficking and Counterfeiting
Counterfeiting has become an enormous problem in our world and what aide's it in its efforts is human trafficking. Many people fail to realize the correlation and the astounding statistics that comes along with it. This harms Americans more than we know; it is the cause for the loss of more than 700,000 jobs and takes 7% from the annual world trade, valued at 600 billion dollars. However, without human trafficking this would not be an issue.
As many companies begin to cracked down on those trying to "push product" which is counterfeit, the police are also aiding its efforts. While there are many sweatshops such as: the sweatshop oversees that tethered children to the floor while they were force to make fake handbags, the dealers are over at the forefront selling the counterfeited goods. Companies are trying to stop it on the electronic level by suing eBay and others of like it who allow counterfeits to be sold. On the other hand, the police pursue this on a street level. However, the battle is far from over.
The battle goes on. As the police become more knowledgeable, so are people involved in counterfeiting. In lieu of using too many sweatshops oversees, dealers are now having illegal immigrants in America placing logos on the generic items. In addition, dealers do not hold stock rooms full of products, but hold vans placed around the city. Although the police realize this, it makes finding a counterfeiting and human trafficking ring a longer process.
One of the Largest Human Trafficking Rings Found
Reports say that police working together from ten different countries, discovered one of the largest human trafficking rings. There was more than 100 people arrested on smuggling people illegally They did this in boats, hidden bus compartments and etc. It took 1,200 police officers to stop this human trafficking ring. The various locations included: France, Poland, Turkey and many other places.
During this enormous bust, 176,500 euros were discovered. In addition there were mobile phones, laptops, bank statements, weapons and ammunition. This evidence will be used in the case against them in their trials. What happens to these victims is unclear, but they will be way from their traffickers. Through all this, their was good. The traffickers are off the streets and victims are away from their traffickers. In my eyes this is a win for the anti-human trafficking people. With the work of many task forces around the world, maybe we can discover more trafficking rings.
Other Illegal Operations Brings a Human Trafficking Ring To Light
In New York, Alexander Adams III was arrested March 30. He was arrested after a bust. During this bust, the police found thousands of dollars worth of cocaine and $75,000 in his Newburgh and Windsor residence. In addition, police found three trafficked and abused women in his home.
Adams was arrested for sex trafficking, criminal possession and rape. His illegal tendencies brought his human trafficking ring to light. While Adams awaits his court date, he is held without bail. However, nothing else was said about the women found.
My advice to my readers is to: follow the story. This is because it is fairly often that newspapers completes a follow up story for those who were involved. However, this is somewhat true when there is only one person going to trial. Everyone else, on the other hand, is completely disregarded after the bust.

Alpha Kappa Alpha: Bringing Awareness
Marion County in Indianapolis has one of the fastest growing human trafficking rates in the country. It is not effecting some people but all people in Marion County. With this being said not only are the prosecutors and the police working to stop it but also local a sorority. The sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, is working to bring awareness to the citizens.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is making this a new community outreach convention. It is free to the public and brings awareness to the community. Not only will it inform the people, but it will also have on site counselors ready to help victims. This convention displays the investment they have in their own community.
After reading such articles, it makes me feel that human trafficking victims are not alone. As long as people are fighting for prevention, and awareness, we can eradicate the situation. A little teamwork and hard work, anything is possible. End human trafficking one step at a time.
Little Hope For American Human Trafficking Victims
In 2009, the Philadelphia Weekly posted an article about a young woman named Mimi. She was a victim of human trafficking who insisted on getting her life together. Mimi has spent much of her time very hopeful.
After being released from the world of human trafficking, Mimi hoped to be reintegrated by Dawn's Place in Philadelphia.
This place was thought to be a safe haven for her, but instead it was filled with empty promises. There was funding for Dawn's Place to help women and children victims, but only on the international level.
By the time it could help Mimi, she had committed suicide because of her emotional problems.
The root of these turn of events are very simple.
One of them happened to be spawned off of what a social worker said, which was: you must help the victims when they want help or you will lose them. Another root of these turn of events is: the belief that human trafficking does not exist America. Because of these two roots, Mimi was not able to get the help she needed and she suffered greatly for it. The sad reality is this is too common in America.
Reintegration of Victims
The road to reintegration of human trafficking victims is a difficult one. As any victim, the have emotional scars and problems adjusting. However, like most other victims, they encounter additional problem that prevent reintegration. These problem are sometimes cannot be fixed.
Many times before, human trafficking victims has found it hard to find a job. This is because many have been arrested for prostitution or illegal migration. Because of their record, many women and men face the issue of supporting themselves after being taking out of the trafficking ring. in addition many people are socially awkward and cannot adapt to their surrounding area in order to keep a job. However, there is help.
In many countries, there are reintegration assistance for victims. Utilizing these assistant programs are very hard because they are not widely known and can be very restrictive in certain countries. However, they do provide hope and a sense of stability for those to utilize it. As most know, to sray from human trafficking you must adapt once again to lead a normal life.
Survivor Story video
Watch "Human-trafficking survivor shares her story of freedom" on YouTube
This video was a news report of a young and ambitious college student was sold into human trafficking. This young Lincoln University student had dreams of becoming a model. She was offered an opportunity to become one for a modeling agency based in California who sent her oversees. Once there she found she was bought buy a rich man and his girlfriend. However, despite the odds she coned her way home to America.
Now a married mother, she has become an advocate in ending human trafficking. This 29 year old shared her story with over 200 William Woods students and many other people across America. She does this because without awareness purple will never know about human trafficking. One day she hopes we can bring it to an end.
Human Trafficking Awareness Day Video
After watching the Randall Pong's video on YouTube, I became deeply moved. It brought me to a place where I felt more connected and deeply rooted to the victims. This is not just a informational video, it is also gives imagery to allow this information to stay with you.
As Randall gave viewers these statistics, he brought people a way to get involved. In the video it informed viewers about the awareness day on April 10, 2013. This dress down day at schools is used to support safe havens for child sex trafficking victims. This is a great cause because as the video stated, 1.2 million children are trafficked.
Getting Involved: the Baseball Edition
Many people are not sure on what they can do to help human trafficking. However, The Not For Sale Campaign is one of the few companies that are trying different ways to stop it. With its new Team For Sale Roster, this campaign is engaging Americans in the cause. Like my mother always says, everyone needs a helping hand to change something.
Professional baseball player Jeremy Affeldt, is the player that the Team For Sale Roster initiated with. After joining on his off season, Jeremy went to Thailand to actually see some of the victims he was helping. After he came back, he began to bring other baseball players to the roster. As of now the roster consists of 30 players! However, Jeremy hasn't stopped there.
The step after joining this cause is to set up and make your contribution. Their contribution is based off of their statistics and the money he can give. Jeremy, for example, has to pay $250 for every strikeout he has. This is a great way to set the stage for those who closely watch these role models while helping stop human trafficking.

The Superbowl, Home To A Huge Trafficking Ring
The Superbowl is one of the biggest sporting events in America. However, it is not all it is known for. The Superbowl is know to many others in the human trafficking industry as a weekend to bring in more profit. With many different people coming to see this live sporting event, the new customers increase.
Many people such as Ms. Greenlee, were trafficked around the large sporting events. Ms. Greenlee said that she was forced to reach a certain number of customers in this high traffic time. In addition she was beaten if she did not make her quota, as many were who had endless customers. However, true events are not enough for those who believe human trafficking is not prevalent in American Society.
Critics say believe it is impossible for these turn of event to happen during a large influx of police officers patrolling. This is because they believe many people would be caught during this time, thus they believe it is impossible for others to due so under this supervision. However, others believe it is worth the risk for those in the human trafficking ring. This is primarily because the of the massive amount of money to be maid.

"Modern Slavery - Human Trafficking" Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZTN0TbsRYA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Over $32 billion dollars were made in 2007 in the human trafficking, and that's more than Google makes in a year. However, the cost of it is seeing children, men and women exploited for money. These same people are only given enough food for survival and it is only so much done to prevent this. This worldwide human trafficking ring is selling more people than any slave trade our history has witnessed.
There is many things we do not know about this inhumane crime. As a people we must do something about it, to stop human trafficking. After watching this, I realized that rehabilitation is useless for those sold into human trafficking unless we go the extra mile to relocate them. My question to you is: what are you going to do to help?
Polaris Project
http://www.polarisproject.org/what-we-do/client-services/survivor-stories/465-sarah-domestic-minor-sex-trafficking
Although there is a lot of bad things that comes out of human trafficking, there still are happy endings and other supports systems designed to help these victims of human trafficking. One of those people was Sarah who is a 17 year old white female from rural Ohio. Due to her uncomfortable living situation with her mother and stepfather, who often drank excessively and rarely payed attention to her, she ran away repeated. This was all, of course, until a 30 year old man came into her life.
Sarah came across a charming man who pampered her and listened to her. After dating him for some time, they moved in together. This man got her into trafficking after claiming he need money for rent. Because she refused to go home, she went along with this until she was raped by a client. Sarah called the police who go her out of human trafficking. Once she was out, life began to look up.
When the police took her for an examination at the hospital, the Polaris Project helped her in every way possible. It provided emotional support as well as emergency housing for Sarah. After getting back on her feet, she continued her schooling while working a part time job to support herself. While these horrid turn of events hurt Sarah, she has become a sign that there is hope. In addition, the support that The Polaris Project is giving brings helps victims see they are not alone out here.
Ocean Spa Massage Bust News Report Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YMA9_0UPkQ
In Tampa, Florida, Ocean Spa Massage was busted in human trafficking. Three women were found inside and two of them were unfamiliar with the English language. This bust has been a foreseen by many of the other business owners in the area. Following the bust, one business owner commented on the the spa stating it gives out "happy ending massages" to its clients.
This bust brings many questions to my mind. One of my more important questions is: if this was well-known in the community, why wasn't this reported sooner? This confuses me in many ways because it took one person to tip the police off, but others knew about the unprofessional things that Ocean Spa Massage were doing. My main point is: if you know something is going on in your neighborhood, especially if it is human trafficking, you should contact the police as soon as possible and not wait for someone else to do so.
A Troubled Woman Brought in Trafficking News Report Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOIPd5a5UaQ
After watching this video, I gained different understanding of what happens to victims mentally as they are being introduced to sex trafficking. Stacy, who was 14 at the time, was emotionally unstable and unable to understand that this 22 year old man was a threat even after meeting him in person. She thought she loved this monster and only did this out of her love for him. Once she finally found her only voice of reasoning, she was able to leave this man who was brought her in human trafficking.
This is what many young women and children go through daily as they are more exposed to men and women in the human trafficking ring. From different only sources, people are seeking emotionally unstable and unloved women and men. As this continues, very few get a chance to get out of this. However, Stacy was able to get out of it.
