Human Trafficking in Seattle

http://www.seattlewomanmagazine.com/articles/feb10-6.htm
Human trafficking victims are not always noticed. They could be anyone you see or know. They are basically slaves chained by differences in language, abuse, lies and etc. With these barriers placed in front of victims, it is hard to escape and the secret  trafficking remains. They are trapped in these situations where they are afraid to telling anyone because they might end up getting hurt more.

Many women and men that come from other countries to work and help their families are there once put in these situations. A african woman was hired by a local couple as a housekeeper and she was told that the three children she left behind in Africa would be sent to good schools and that she would get to visit them every year in December. The visits never happened. The woman stated “I wake up at 6 in the morning. I had to do everything,” she says. “I work up to 9:30 [p.m.]. I go to bed at 10.”
“They told me not to communicate with other people, even if they visit us [or] come to the house. So I just keep quiet.”She left her whole family and like many victims she was filled with false promises to work for free. There are hundreds of foreign-born people like her enslaved among us in Washington State.
Too many of these incidents are occurring in Seattle.  These victims are habored and transported by deception to make a quick dollar. The majority in Washington are exploited for their labor, some are forced into prostitution or sexual slavery. What makes things worse is not all people know they are victims. However, Refugee Woman's Alliance are mostly victims in this type of trafficking crimes.
